Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Share Society collects, why we use it, who helps us process it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.
1. Who we are
Share Society (“Share Society”, “we”, “us”) operates a marketplace that helps people share the cost of eligible multi-person or add-on subscription plans. This policy applies to sharesociety.app, our launch waitlist, and the Share Society app and marketplace when those features are available.
For privacy questions, access or correction requests, or deletion requests, contact hello@sharesociety.app.
2. Information we collect on this website
You can read the website without creating an account. We do not currently use advertising, behavioural analytics, or tracking cookies on this website, and we do not set our own cookies.
- Website delivery and security. The site is delivered through third-party hosting and security providers, which necessarily process technical request information such as IP address, browser/device information, request time and security signals to deliver and protect the site.
- Fonts. The site currently loads Plus Jakarta Sans from Google Fonts, so your browser makes a request to Google when the font is loaded.
If we later add analytics, advertising technology or cookies that materially change this position, we will update this policy and any consent controls required by law before relying on them.
3. Launch waitlist
If you join the Share Society waitlist, we collect:
- your name;
- your email address;
- the subscription or plan you tell us you are interested in, including free text if you choose “Other”;
- the time of the submission; and
- basic source/version information needed to understand which sign-up notice produced the record.
We use waitlist information to contact you about the Share Society launch, understand demand for different subscription plans, prevent uncontrolled duplicate sign-ups, operate and monitor the waitlist, and respond to support requests. When someone joins the waitlist, we may also send an internal operational email containing the sign-up details so we can monitor and respond to sign-ups. We may process this information through third-party service providers that help us host, store, secure, communicate and operate our services (see section 12).
We do not sell waitlist information and do not use it to enrol you in unrelated marketing programmes. You can ask us to remove your waitlist record at any time by emailing hello@sharesociety.app from the email address you used to sign up.
4. Account and sign-in information
Browsing available plans and groups may be possible without an account. Joining a group, starting a group, making marketplace payments and using account features require an account.
We use a third-party authentication provider. It processes the email address you use to sign in, optional name information you provide, your password, and the session/device/IP information needed to operate and protect authentication. Share Society does not receive or store your plaintext password.
5. Marketplace and group information
We store marketplace data with third-party database and application-infrastructure providers. Depending on how you use Share Society, marketplace records may include:
- your internal account identifier and first name;
- groups you start and requests you make or receive;
- the provider, plan, capacity and arrangement state relevant to a group;
- payment, refund, host-earning and settlement status and amounts;
- payment-provider reference identifiers;
- provider invitation or access details shared between the participants who need them;
- cancellation, access-problem, safety and support reports and the decisions made on them;
- messages sent inside participant-scoped Share Society conversations; and
- your Share Society Pro entitlement status.
Participant identity and financial information are not intended to be public. Other participants receive only the information needed to operate the group or arrangement they are part of.
6. Messages, reports and moderation
Share Society includes participant-scoped messaging. Messages are not public posts. Participants may block another participant or report conduct or message content.
When a message or person is reported, we retain the information needed to review the report, including a snapshot of reported content and the report reason. A report snapshot may remain after the author deletes their account because erasing the only evidence could make an open safety case impossible to review.
7. Payments and host reimbursements
Stripe processes marketplace payments. Card details are entered through Stripe-hosted payment surfaces, so Share Society does not see or store your full card number.
If you host a group and receive reimbursement, Stripe may collect identity-verification, bank and payout information for the connected payout account. Share Society stores the Stripe account/reference information, capabilities and payment/settlement state needed to operate and reconcile the marketplace; we do not store your bank-account credentials or identity documents.
Share Society’s host balance is an earned-payables record, not a consumer wallet. It cannot be topped up, spent, transferred to another user or used to pay arbitrary third parties.
8. Share Society Pro
If you purchase Share Society Pro through Apple, Apple and our subscription-management provider give us purchase and subscription-entitlement information linked to your Share Society account. Share Society does not receive your Apple payment-card details.
9. Notifications and diagnostics
We use a push-notification provider for transactional notifications about account, group and payment activity. It processes the device push token and the account reference needed to route a notification. Push notifications use generic wording and do not include chat-message content.
We use an error and crash-reporting provider. The current product configuration is intended to keep this diagnostic collection narrow; performance tracing, session replay, screenshots and default personal-data collection are not part of the intended release configuration. Exact App Store privacy declarations are verified against the release candidate and provider configuration before submission.
10. Information we do not ask the app to access
The current Share Society app does not request access to:
- your precise or coarse device location;
- your camera or microphone;
- your contacts, calendar or photo library; or
- your advertising identifier for cross-app advertising or tracking.
We do not sell personal data and do not use Share Society data for third-party advertising or data-broker tracking.
11. Why we use personal data
We use personal data only where reasonably necessary to operate and protect Share Society, including to:
- create and secure accounts;
- run the waitlist;
- operate groups, requests, access and participant messaging;
- process and reconcile payments, refunds, host earnings and settlements;
- provide Share Society Pro entitlements;
- send transactional notifications;
- detect, investigate and respond to fraud, abuse, safety issues and technical failures;
- respond to support and privacy requests; and
- meet legal, accounting, tax and regulatory obligations that apply to us.
12. Service providers and disclosures
We use trusted third-party service providers to help operate Share Society, including providers for hosting and infrastructure, data storage, authentication, payments, email and communications, notifications, subscription management, security, and error monitoring. These providers process personal data only as needed to provide those services. Our website also causes your browser to request fonts from Google Fonts, as described in section 2. Where a provider is central to a transaction, such as Apple for Share Society Pro purchases or Stripe for card payments and host payouts, we name it in the relevant section above.
We may also disclose information where reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to lawful process, prevent fraud or harm, enforce our Terms, or protect the rights and safety of users and others.
13. International processing
Some service providers may store or process information outside Singapore, including in the United States. If you use Share Society in Singapore, Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act applies to how we handle your personal data. We use our service providers subject to their applicable contractual and security arrangements.
14. How long we keep information
We keep information only for as long as it remains reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it is held, including operating an account or marketplace arrangement, resolving money or support issues, handling safety cases, and meeting legal or accounting obligations.
We have not published fixed numeric retention periods for every record class because the current product does not yet implement a universal scheduled purge for those periods. We will not claim a retention period that our systems do not actually enforce.
- Waitlist records: kept while the launch waitlist remains useful, unless you ask us to delete your record sooner.
- Open money records: payments, refunds, host earnings, settlements and related records remain while obligations are unresolved.
- Financial records: records that must be kept for accounting, tax, dispute or legal purposes may remain after account deletion in pseudonymous form.
- Safety records: a reported-content snapshot and moderation/support decision may remain while needed to review or defend a safety decision.
- Deletion record: a minimal deletion record may remain so we can complete asynchronous provider cleanup and confirm what happened.
15. Deleting your Share Society account
You can initiate account deletion from inside the app. Deletion removes the ordinary sign-in/profile relationship and starts cleanup across the systems Share Society uses. The app provides a deletion reference where follow-up is needed.
Current deletion behaviour includes:
- deleting the Share Society profile and Pro entitlement record;
- requesting deletion of the sign-in account held by our authentication provider;
- closing or withdrawing relevant open groups and requests according to their current lifecycle state;
- replacing the deleted member’s displayed name with “Former member” where transaction/history records must remain;
- erasing messages written by the deleted account from ordinary conversation views, while preserving report evidence where a safety case requires it;
- requesting that our notification provider unlink the device; and
- closing a Stripe connected payout account only when doing so will not interfere with unresolved money or settlement obligations.
Deleting an account does not erase another participant’s records and does not cancel money that is still owed to or from another person. Open refunds, payment reconciliation and settlement work continue until resolved. Deleting Share Society does not itself cancel an Apple subscription; Apple subscriptions are managed through your Apple account.
16. Your choices and rights
You can ask us to provide information about personal data we hold about you, correct inaccurate personal data, or delete personal data that no longer needs to be retained. Email hello@sharesociety.app.
You can turn push notifications off in iOS Settings without deleting your account. If we cannot resolve a concern about our handling of personal data, you may contact Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Commission.
17. Children
Share Society is not intended for children under 13. Users must also meet the age and eligibility requirements of any provider plan they join or host.
18. Security
We use access controls and the security features of our service providers to protect information. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, and this policy does not make such a guarantee.
19. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when Share Society’s actual data practices change. We will change the “last updated” date and, where appropriate, notify users of material changes through the app, website or email.
